My Top 10 Games of E3 2017

was a Well E3 has officially wrapped. We saw plenty of shiny new games that span a whole variety of genres and art styles. It’s truly the best time of the year of for gamers. I’ve been keeping a close eye on everything shown and there sure was a lot. We got some explosive new reveals and better looks at previously announced games and I’ve picked out my top 10 favs.

In order to end up on this a list a game needed to have had an in-game and/or in-engine trailer or demo that actually showcases the game. A simple logo or CG cinematic isn’t enough to qualify. Sorry Metroid.

With that said, let’s dive in.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

I never thought this game would end up in my top 10. I’m still not sure about the inclusion of the Rabbids but giving a Mario a gun and giving it Xcom game mechanics is a ballsy approach and it looks like it’s going pay off. I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. It looks absolutely wonderful. I feel bad for all the jokes I made about it beforehand!

Metro: Exodus

I did not see this one coming. I’m glad Microsoft and Deep Silver gave this game series the platform and attention it deserves. I played through the Metro Redux collection last year and loved the setting and the main character Artyom. They bring a pretty cool survival angle to the FPS genre and it sounds like we’re going get a much more open environment to explore this time around. Bring it on.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins

I was a huge fan of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate back in 2015 and have eagerly been waiting on a follow-up ever since. It’s been in development for a while now, and it is being developed by the main Black Flag team. Origins promises to have a deeper RPG system and more free-form movement and combat. I was a little worried that the Egypt setting might not allow for many buildings to crawl but it’s looking like there’s going be plenty of other things to do and places to hide. I’m excited.

State of Decay 2

I wasn’t blown away by this trailer but I did really like the original and I’m curious to see how Undead Labs expand upon the first game. It’s safe to say there is way to many zombie games on the market but State of Decay did things differently with the ability to lose main characters in an instant. It’s also got co-op and online multiplayer so you can watch your friends get brutally murdered by an onslaught of zombies. I figured this game would be a no-brainer this Fall but it sounds like it won’t be ready until Spring 2018. Take your time with this Undead Labs, I think they could have something very unique on their hands.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

I can’t believe how amazing this game looks. New 3 Vs 3 Dragon Ball that has a Marvel Vs Capcom feel, yes please! Did not expect for this game to show up at the Xbox Conference. Well played! I can’t wait to get my hands on this. I’m hoping we get a half decent story.

Oh how I’d love to see more from Anthem but I’ll take what I can get. BioWare is one of the best developers out there giving us some absolutely incredible gaming experiences and Anthem is their first new IP in 8 years (Dragon Age: Origins released in 2009). This game looks truly amazing, the Frostbite engine is flexing its true power. I want a deep story and the ability to fly anywhere and I think Bioware can deliver. Hopefully, the wait isn’t too long.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

I never finished Wolfenstein: The New Order but it’s the first thing I popped in my Xbox after the Bethesda conference. I plan on finishing it this weekend. It’s an absolute bat shit crazy game that is incredibly fun. The trailer for the sequel makes it look like we’re in for another fantastic adventure. Protagonist BJ is back in the United States to take down Nazi scum. The game looks absolutely stunning thanks to the new id Tech 6 engine. That final shot of the guy tripping on drugs and playing with the cartoon lizard is amazing. I can’t wait to dive in when it comes out in just four short months.

God of War

Wow, this game has come along way from last year. It looks absolutely stunning and the new direction looks like a great refresher for the franchise. Kratos and his (possible) child’s relationship is giving me serious Last of Us vibes and that’s ok. The enemies look incredible, the action fast-paced and what looks like an emotional story. I’m all in.

Super Mario Odyssey

Nintendo looks like they are about to have a massive console seller on their hands. Sure Zelda BOTW was an amazing game but fans didn’t need a Switch to play it. That’s not the case with Super Mario Odyssey.  This looks like a beautiful mix of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy with so many older Mario throwbacks thrown in for good measure. I’m loving everything I’ve seen from this game and can’t wait for October.

In my mind, this stole Sony’s already awesome press conference. This looks like an absolutely top notch Spidey game developed by one of the best game studios out there. Insomniac looks like they are doing all the right things with the web slinger and that clip of Miles Morales at the end. OMG. This game can’t come soon enough.
