Most people don’t know this, and I don’t really give off a bookworm vibe but I read a lot of books. I often can’t sleep at night so I burn the midnight oil reading. I constantly buy books and have shelves full of them. My grandpa had me sign up for a library card when I was 3 or 4 and we would spend all our weekends there. I read everything he recommended as well as a few of my own picks. I’m looking at you Magic Tree House and Goosebumps. One day I hope to share some books with my kids and 101 Video Games To Play Before You Grow Up will be on that list.
101 Video Games to Play Before You Grow Up: The unofficial must-play video game list for kids was written by Ben Bertoli who has written for Polygon, Kotaku, Mashable and I might be best known for following me on Twitter. I KID! I’ve always loved Ben’s pieces on Kotaku and was stoked to check out his book. This is an absolutely great list of games. In order to create a list that is accessible to kids, it had to not include any mature rated games. If any game in the main series had an “M” stamp on it, it was disqualified from the running. You can read all about the making of the book over on Kotaku (of course).
Each page pops with beautiful animations that kids will surely love. The book also contains tons of behind-the-scene tidbits and trivia about the games. I learned quite a few things! This book ain’t just for kids! My favorite part is it allows readers to give their own personal ratings for each series as well as a section to give notes critiquing the best and worst parts of each game.
Don’t be afraid to write on the pages!
What game series will you show your kids?
His publisher was nice enough to let me giveaway a copy so now you can win your own copy of the book!
