The rumors are true. Kendrick Lamar is in charge of the Black Panther soundtrack!
Marvel might have one of the best selling CDs on their hands with this soundtrack.
The king of Wakanda is getting a soundtrack courtesy of the king of rap, Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick has teamed up with Top Dawg Entertainment founder Anthony Tiffith to curate and produce Black Panther: The Album. It features songs from the film, as well as new music directly inspired by it, such as Black Panther’s lead single “All The Stars” featuring Lamar and SZA. You can hear it below:
Remember when all we got was Kanye West’s “Power” track?
I love this track. “All The Stars” is a contemplative, bass-heavy jam that talks about the heavyweight on T’Challa’s shoulders as he ascends to the throne of Wakanda. It’s fresh as hell.
Lamar expressed his excitement to be a part of the film in a public statement this morning:
“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside [director Ryan Coogler] and Marvel’s vision.”
The album will be available on February 9th, followed by the movie on February 16th. Rumor has it tickets should go on sale as soon as tomorrow so keep an eye out!
