Harry Potter Game Is Pokemon Go Creator’s Next Magic Trick

Say what you will about Pokemon Go but it was a phenomenon. It seemed like everyone one and their dog was catching Pokemon in the park or on their way to work. It was crazy. It was buggy and it hardly worked but it resonated with people. Now Pokemon Go and Ingress developer Niantic is working on a Harry Potter-themed follow-up.

If it succeeds it might be the biggest magic trick of all time.

Warner Bros. and Niantic will bring Harry Potter: Wizards Unite to mobile devices, letting fans of the series role-play as “aspiring wizards and witches” in a new AR game.

“By exploring real-world neighborhoods and cities across the globe, players will go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters,” Niantic and Warner Bros. said in a press release for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be released under Warner Bros.’ Portkey Games brand, a new games label “dedicated to creating video game and mobile experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.”

Harry Potter has that same nostalgia factor that Pokemon does and will probably have people racing around their neighborhoods all over again.
