Minecraft is getting even bigger this June with the announcement of mini games on consoles, and the first one is called Battle. It’s free competitive multiplayer content that comes with three maps.
The initial set of maps will be free and additional Map Packs will be added for the low cost of $2.99.
There is no release date planned but you can expect to see it release in June. My guess, probably after E3.
No longer will you have to walk around aimlessly, building fires, fighting ghouls. You can now beat the blocks out of your friends and enemies.
Says Microsoft marketing manager Jaime Limon on Xbox Wire today:
The first mini game we’ll be rolling out is called Battle, which will include three maps, and will allow you to set up a competitive multiplayer fight for survival, where speed, strategy, and sometimes pure luck will make you the winner. Players in Battle matches use randomly-generated resources found in chests placed in specially-designed PVP maps and combat one another in a free-for-all death match until the final victor is determined. The fun isn’t over after you are defeated though, as fallen players can spectate the match by flying freely around each arena as a bat.
Battle matches can be played with up to four players in split-screen and up to eight players online via Xbox Live. You can also find other community members to join your game via an in-game matchmaking system.
I haven’t played Minecraft in a hot minute, but I’ll be back this summer and I hope to see you in the arena.
