With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it’s time you start thinking about ways to spoil your loved ones. I’ve put together a list of great co-op games that won’t drive a stake into your relationship (no guarantees). These games are balanced and will hopefully make your night extra saucy, and if you find yourself alone just like me then pop in a copy of Nioh. That will keep you busy all night long you lonely stud.
Rayman Legends – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows
Honestly, one of the best co-op experiences since the golden age of gaming on the SNES. It’s so much fun and pretty damn easy so you won’t have to worry about helping your partner all that much. The music levels are some of the best you’ll ever see in a platformer. This would be my number one choice.
If you’re an Xbox One owner then I hope you downloaded Rayman Origins for free last month. It’s also extremely fun with a partner but Legends does it better.
Overcooked – PS4, Xbox One, Windows
Overcooked will help set the mood and show your partner you know your way around a virtual kitchen. Hubba Hubba. This fantastic co-op game has you looking at orders, chopping up ingredients, cooking, serving and cleaning as well as avoiding obstacles. If you’ve ever wanted to live out your fantasy of cooking on a pirate ship, this game is for you.
Any of the 20 LEGO games are a great option. Here’s a list of my favorites. Or grab LEGO Dimensions, that way you can build LEGO together too. AWEEEH.
Borderlands 2 – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
If your lover in the sheets likes a good shoot ’em up then this is the game for you two. It’s got tons of secrets, obnoxiously long, and sometimes funny. It will remind your partner of you. ZING.
If shooters are your thing give Halo: Masterchief Collection a go. The couch co-op still remains my favorite and brings me back to my childhood couped up in my friend’s basements drinking Mountain Dew and eating Cheetos.
The Jackbox Games are fantastic if you want to drink while you play! Drinking leads to bad decision making, and Valentine’s Day is all about bad choices right!? There are three Party Packs to choose from so pick one at random and go for it!
Diablo 3 – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Macintosh operating systems
Diablo 3 is like an adult version of the LEGO games. This is a great option if your lover doesn’t like shooters but doesn’t mind crushing skulls with an axe. Not for the faint of heart.
Halo Wars – Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC
With Halo Wars 2 coming out the following week why not go back and take control of the Spirit Of Fire. If you want a refresher but don’t want to pop back in the game, I’ve got you covered. This is a good game to play if your “Gaming and Chill” partner has a knack for real-time strategy games.
Octodad – PlayStation 4, Xbox One
If you and your lucky pal like smoking the devil’s lettuce this game is for you. It’s one of the most bizarre gaming experiences you’ll ever encounter. A friend told me to download this at a party, which I promptly did when I got home because you should always listen to your friends gaming recommendations. I turned it on and started playing and thought I was way too drunk to figure out the controls. Turns out the controls make you feel like you are drunk so going at it sober is no better. Toke up and enjoy!
Lover’s In Dangerous Space Time is free right now on Xbox Games With Gold. I haven’t had a chance to play it, but I hear it’s pretty good for couples and who doesn’t like free. That means more money for chocolates, roses and bath bombs!
Super Mario 3D World or/and New Super Mario Bros. U for the Nintendo Wii U. Say what you will about the Wii U but it has some amazing couch co-op games. I played through both of these titles with my full-time lover and had a blast. Both these games are massive and full of secrets. You and your partner will be playing through these long past V-Day. If you haven’t picked up a Wii U, they are stupid cheap right now and are totally worth it. If you want a little throwback action download Mario Party 2 from the e-Shop. It really holds up well, but whatever you do don’t download the new Mario Party 10. It’s frustrating and not very much fun. If you’re going be alone on V-Day give Captain Toad a try. It’s the best game on the Wii U hands down. If you don’t agree, come at me bro!
There you have it dudes and dudettes. These are just a few suggestions for you and your lover this Valentine’s Day. What did I miss? Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter. As for what I’ll be doing? I’ll be sipping on some rare exotic scotch, smoking a cuban cigar while trying to progress in Nioh.
Just kidding. This will be me!!!!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
