The Biggest Surprises From E3 2017

This year’s E3 has come and gone and I feel a tad overwhelmed. Very little surprised me this year but there were a few big announcements that did cause me to yell out in joy. Let’s start with the first big one that continues to boggle my mind the more and more I watch the trailer.

Mario x Rabbids actually looks good. Like really good. I figured the combat system would be a stripped down version of Final Fantasy Tactics. Instead, it comes across as more like Xcom lite. That’s freaking rad! Xcom has never captured my interest, the learning curve is too high but a Mario game for kids with that kind of combat should keep me entertained for hours.

Not one but two Metroid Games! Even though the teaser for Metroid Prime 4 was nothing more than a title placard the hype levels are through the roof. Also announced was Metroid: Samus Returns, a side-scrolling 3DS fame that will be out in September.

The Xbox One will support backwards compatibly starting with Crimson Skies this fall. All original Xbox games available on the 360 will work on the Xbox One first with more to come in the near future. This announcement would have gone over even better had Microsoft announced a new fricking Crimson Skies game. Anyways, here’s hoping we see Shenmue II.

A Shadow of the Colossus remake is coming to the PS4. Wow, this came out of a nowhere. This isn’t just a simple remaster, this is a full blown remake of one of the best video games of all time. Holy shit.

Monster Hunter showed up on the PS4 stage and is coming to PC and consoles in early 2018! The series known for its open world exploration, loot grinding and co-op monster hunting has been primarily released on handhelds so a console version will be snatched up quickly by the fans.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is officially announced and was apparently working in very rough form behind some tightly closed doors. I’m not feeling the trailer and really want to see the gameplay before making any assumptions.

Metro: Exodus looks absolutely stunning and came out of nowhere during the Microsoft panel but I do wish Splinter Cell would have shown up.

What did I miss? Let me know in the comments below or of course on Twitter.
