Ever been at a party and told the room, “I got this” when picking the music and failed miserably. You thought the crowd wanted Katy Perry but they really wanted Nickelback. You see that cute girl you’ve been staring at slowly walk backwards toward an exit. You’ll be banished to social exile. Your fingers will never be allowed near the iPod again. But this summer you never have to worry again about being the dumbo with the bad taste in music thanks to Coca-Cola and Spotify. Just ask the room are we feeling like “Bros” or “MVPs” and let Spotify’s pre-curated playlists take the charge.
Coca-Cola is getting into the summer spirit with “Play a Coke”, a new twist on one of the Company’s most successful programs of all time, “Share a Coke”. Unique to Canada, “Play a Coke” will swap the logos on over 60 million Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and Coca-Cola Zero bottles for over 185 unique, shareable moments, each linked to a Spotify playlist that brings that moment to life. Fans will be able to access specially-curated playlists for moments such as “First Kiss”, “Road Trip” and “True North, Strong”, simply by downloading the Play a Coke app, pointing their smartphone at their Coca-Cola bottle or fountain cup and pressing play.
I tried it out and it worked instantly.
Just watch my video below:
There’re 185 playlists out there in the wild. That’s 34 more bottles than there were original Pokemon! That’s a whole shit load of Coke. The best part about this is limited-edition releases of Cherry Coke and Vanilla Coke, my two favourite kinds of Coke are now available.
Get out there and share a coke with your pals this long weekend. And hit me up on Twitter and let me know what playlists you’ll be bumping in the sun.
Oh and wear sunscreen! If your skin is the colour of a Coke bottle you got a serious problem lobster boy.
